It’s noon, he’s tired
already. If he quits
now, he will have wasted
the day, and you know,
he knows, there’s not
that many now, not
like before when
they were, you know,
countless.

Ron Salisbury, the inaugural Poet Laureate of San Diego for 2020-2021, has taught poetry for forty years. He currently teaches the Certificate in Poetry at San Diego Writers, Ink. In 2015, his book, Miss Desert Inn, won the Main Street Rag Poetry Book Award, and he earned an M.F.A. in poetry from San Diego State University.
