In another hemisphere,
people are busy
welcoming you back.
The hills here
wear mantles of snow;
we fumble with coats
and keep a naked hand
in our pocket.
For saying the icicles
hanging above the awning
were beautiful
while I warmed myself
by the smoldering wood stove,
forgive me. I’m sorry
for taking so long
to get back to you;
I had boots to wear
and gloves to lose.
